History of BSI

Proclamation of Independence on August 17, 1945, was the essence of Indonesian people’s determination to fight against the ignorance and misery that left by the cruelty of colonial.The right and directional development will take the Indonesian people to the independent gateway as a free nation. In that way It encouraged the establishment of Bina Sarana Informatika Foundation by the late of Mayjen (Purn) H.R. Harsoyo on March 3, 1988. Bina Sarana Informatika Foundation beliefs that every person has responsibility to fill in the independence, especially the one who loves his fatherland and nation.

The responsibility to fill in the independence encourages new patriots, to continue the sacrifices of noble people in fighting and maintaining the independence, they try to fight against the ignorance and misery. Feeling responsible, the purpose of the establishment of Bina Sarana Informatika Foundation is to take part in educating our nation, by providing new field of job for the whole community in general, and operating the education in the computer field formally or informally that affordable by the whole community. To perform those tasks, and after a deep preparation, on March 1988 the Board of Computer Education Bina Sarana Informatika (LPK BSI) was established in Depok. This education institution has it aims to educate the skilled or professional employees in computer field, to fill in the need of human resources in national development and because of the greater trust of LPK BSI from society, therefore in October 1989, Bina Sarana Informatika Foundation Office moved to Jakarta and officially announced as the second branch of LPK BSI.

By having its central office in Jakarta, the community trust grew bigger, so in order to get near to the students, continuously and carefully another branch set up. Along with the progress in 1990, Bina Sarana Informatika Foundation has established ‘the ready to work’ education program which is called Polytechnic of Bina Sarana Informatika with its first major was Computer Accounting, and the first class was in the academic year of 1990/1991. In the academic years of 1992/1993, BSI has set up four majors; those are Information Management, Computer Banking, Computer Engineering, and Secretary that has officially been opened.

Department of education and culture change the name Polytechnic Bina Sarana Informatika into One Year Program of Bina Sarana Informatika that still used until now.

Now a day, One Year Program of Bina Sarana Informatika has five majors, namely: Computer Accounting, Information Management, Computer Engineering, Secretary, and Office Management. The trust of government and community are getting bigger to Bina Sarana Informatika, the important means, such as improvement of curriculum, teaching recruitment, administration and management and teaching – learning facilities improvement are used to compensate it.

Based on the Building Committee Plan of Bina Sarana Informatika Foundation, the provision of land has set to prepare for the development of its own campus in Jl. RS. Fatmawati – South Jakarta. With the steadiness of organization of education in Bina Sarana Informatika and the increasing amount of interest and the needs of computer expertise, Bina Sarana Informatika Foundation established the Information Management Department and Computer Department (AMIK BSI) in academic years of 1994.

AMIK BSI has started its activities in the academic years of 1994/1995 after the operational permission issued. And on October 3, 1995, through the Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Education and Culture Decree Number: 080/D/0/1995, AMIK BSI registered to obtain the status registered of the information Management Department. It also important to be noticed, with the status registered, in 1998 AMIK BSI has successfully acceded the new scholars of Computer degree after completing the whole responsibility studies (local test, state examination, and final assignment exam). Than in the academic years of 1999/2000, Information Management Department got the status of DIAKUI (recognized status) and in the academic years of 2000/2001, it developed to status of DISAMAKAN (being equal). And as the realization in educating the nation and fulfilling the needs of ready to work employees, so in the year of 1998, AMIK BSI added new majors, such as Computer Accounting and Computer Engineering, and by the Ministry of Education and Culture Decree Number: 441/DIKTI/KEP/98 on December 18, 1998, those majors started to operate in academic year of 1999/2000.

Along with BSI as a private college in computer based to the community choice, the provision infrastructures of modern education has always been improved, and also the facilities of the development of information world, the condition above makes BSI has to cooperate with another institution that able to supply the additional facilities for the student. This cooperation has been realized along with the founding of Internet Laboratory and Laboratory of Unix/Linux. Based on the previous experience and the needs of professional workers in another field, then in academic years of 2001/2002 BSI has increased the sum of its academic, with the operating of Secretary and Management Academy Bina Sarana Informatika (ASM BSI) that has two majors; Secretary and Administration Management. Long journey that has been gained is not in vain with the growth of the public trust, so BSI is not only a college that teaches computer but also other fields. And in the academic years of 2002/2003, BSI established two new departments; Foreign Language Academy of Bina Sarana Informatika (ABA BSI) and the Academy of Communication Bina Sarana Informatika. ABA BSI has two majors, namely English and Chinese. Meanwhile AKOM BSI has three majors, they are: PR, Broadcasting, and Advertising. The latest academy is Tourism or it is called as AKPAR BSI, which has two majors; Academy of Hotel and Tourism Effort.

Finally, by improving the infrastructures, facilities and quality, it does not mean that BSI will increase its education cost. BSI remains as a private college that choice by the whole community with complete facilities and affordable cost.
